Maybelline Color Show Nail Laqcuers have seem to become a big craze in the beauty industry lately! They retail for around $4, which isn’t bad at all, but who wouldn’t mind paying even less for a product that is even better?

Can you tell which one is which?

If you have a hard time guessing like I do, Essence is on my pointer, Maybelline on my middle, Essence on my ring, and Maybelline on my pinky! Both were given 2 coats.

The only difference I could tell was in the formula.

Maybelline was a bit on the liquidy side, it needs 2-3 coats to get a nice opaque color and the dry time is a bit longer than I am used to.

Essence however was completely opaque in one coat but I used 2 just to keep the swatches consistent. The brush was a little bit more stiff than of a higher quality nail polish but I had no problem getting smooth results. The dry time was fantastic! By the time I finished painting my fingers, they were ready and dry for the next coat! I was very pleasantly surprised for this little 50 cent treasure.

Both are great polishes but I think I will find myself reaching for the Essence one more, due to the higher opacity and faster dry time!

The Science Of Chic: Product Review! Wet n Wild MegaLast Lip Color in Purty Persimmon (970)

thescienceofchic:

The Wet n Wild MegaLast Lip Color line is probably most definitely my favorite lipstick on the drugstore level. They’re super pigmented, the application is smooth, and for a matte/satin lipstick I don’t usually have a problem with them drying out my lips. Purty Persimmon certainly didn’t…

remelodius asked: Is it ok to just use extra virgin olive oil as my eye makeup remover or should I invest in a makeup remover?

Lindsey - That’s perfectly fine as long as you rinse it off and wash your face after you use it as a remover.

hannerzbobanerz asked: whats a good dark berry colored lipstick from a drug store brand?

Haley- Wet n Wild Megalast Lipstick in #908C Sugar Plum Fairy

eyesonthebluehorizon asked: I need some good drugstore lip colors for summer. Every lipstick I own is a deeper fall color. Im always afraid lighter colors will look odd on me. I have light skin and a neutral undertone, any suggestions from you guys? (:

Haley- Right now I’m loving the new Revlon Kissable Balm Stain in Honey, Maybelline Born With It, Revlon Colorburst lipstick in Soft Nude, Revlon Colorburst lipstick in Petal, and for a brighter color Cover Girl Temptress. Don’t worry about lighter colors looking odd on you, since you have light skin you can pull off light colors better than most, and the fact that you have a neutral undertone is great too because you can pull off virtually any color at all!

myglitteryself asked: What's a good vibrant colored brand of lipstick that doesn't fade and stays on? I'm a pretty messy eater so it's almost impossible to find a good lipstick. Idk where to look

Haley- Well usually you pretty much have to touch up a little after eating no matter what, but Wet n Wild and MAC do great brights that are fairly longwearing. If you can, check out the YSL Glossy Stains as well. You can help your lipstick stay on longer by filling in your lips completely  before applying lipstick with a lip liner that is either similar to the lipstick color you are wearing or one similar to your natural lip color, OR by using a lip primer/clear lip liner such as the ELF Lip Lock Pencil, Make Up Forever Lip Line Perfecter, or MAC Prep & Prime Lip. You could try a product that’s marketed to be longwearing even though I hate most of those that I’ve tried (such as the Cover Girl Outlast lip color things-ew). I hear the MAC Pro Longwear Lipcremes are good, but I’m not sure because I haven’t tried any.

spiggyy asked: What is the difference between Dickinson’s witch hazel in the blue bottle or the toner they sell in the yellow bottle in the skin care section?

Lindsey - From their website: “Dickinson’s yellow label products are specially formulated for facial care and have been recognized by millions of consumers as the most gentle way to care for their skin - for over a century. Our products are made using Dickinson’s own all-natural witch hazel formula, to gently cleanse and tone sensitive skin without overdrying.

T.N. Dickinson’s blue label products are primarily formulated for first-aid use. These versatile products are based on T.N.’s all-natural witch hazel astringent and are proven effective for a variety of applications including the treatment of minor bruises, cuts, scrapes, non-poisonous insect bites and general facial and body cleansing.”

dreamingofwonderfulthings asked: Hello, I can't seem to find anything about feet. Everything is about the face mainly. I paint my toe nails. All the time. I like my feet to look nice as well. SO. What can keep my feet smooth and looking nice? People have rough feet. Dead skin and what not. Thank you in advance :)

Lindsey - use a pumice stone on your heels and any other rough spots to slough off the dead skin while you’re in the bath or shower. After you’re done, put a thick cream lotion on your feet…they make lots of lotions specifically for the feet that are thicker.  The best thing to do is do this before bed and put the lotion on your feet then put socks on and sleep in them.  Your feet will be super smooth when you wake up!  If you do this regularly your feet will look smooth and nice :-)

amybearr asked: So my birthday is coming up and im trying to figure out what to spend my money on. And im tied between getting The Naked 2 palette or the BH cosmetics in the 120 colors. which one do you think would be more worth my money?

The Naked 2 because although you’re paying more for less product you’re getting real quality products. It’s your birthday too, girlie! Spoil yourself!

Wet n Wild Megalast lipstick in 910D

Ignore the sloppy photos/swatches (I have to get used to my lip ring again!)

This has quickly become my new favorite true red lipstick. It lasts quite a while, has a matte/satin finish, isn’t drying and is incredibly soft! Best part? Costs $1.99!

Pros:

  • Beautiful color
  • Wonderful texture
  • Fantastic lasting power
  • Cheap as shit

Cons:

  • Terrible cheap plastic packaging, the lipstick doesn’t twist down into the tube making it very prone to nicking the product and it just looks tacky.

Rating: 9.5/10

glitter-junkie:

I bought one of those double ended greasepaint stick things from the MAC Beth Ditto collection, thinking I would like them because I love the old Greasepaint sticks they used to do. Of course lately Temptalia’s reviews haven’t been up before the collections are online so I’m always unsure of what to buy yet don’t want anything to sell out that I might want, and she posted probably the most negative review I’ve ever read about this stinking product. I’m sure it’s getting returned right when I get it, just sucks I have to pay return shipping.

I also was so excited and was going to get Powder to the People because it’s so damn cute in the pan but she gave that a shitty review too yesterday and I didn’t wanna shell out almost $40 just for basically a collector’s item that actually sucks as a product. That’s a ridiculous price for a limited edition MAC cheek product anyway, they’re usually around $30.

I was so excited and really looking forward to this collection since it was announced too. I thought it would be really fun and bright but MAC let me down since the two things I wanted suck.

I did hear the Casual Color lip/cheek things were really good and I got a pretty coral one of those on the bright side.

so anyways, if you guys wanted anything from Beth Ditto or Casual Color they are both online now. I’ll stop my ranting and bitching now but I expected better from one of my favorite brands!

- Haley

April/May Lust List

  • theBalm Frat Boy Blush- I want this blush soooo soooo soooo bad! I keep looking for it at my T.J.Maxx and on eBay. I don’t need any more blushes but I really have to have this blush
  • MAC Sheen Supreme in Blossom Culture-I am not a fan of lipsticks because I don’t find them flattering on my lips. I am obsessed with the Revlon Lip Butters and from what I understand this product is an amped up lip butter. It’s less soft but more pigmented. I think this would be the best everyday color for me.
  • Tarte Archiote Set-This comes with an Amazonian Clay Blush, a LipSurgence Tint and a lipgloss. I havn’t seen the shades in person but online it looks gorgeous. I have really been wanting to try the blush and the lip tint so terribly bad. If only they weren’t so danggum expensive. This set is a wonderful price though. It’s a little under $50.

First Impressions: Revlon ColorStay Whipped Creme Makeup

thescienceofchic:

Revlon ColorStay Whipped Creme Makeup is Revlon’s newest foundation. It’s described as a “bouncy, whipped formula” that “feels ultra light and silky smooth”. It is also talc and paraben free. Revlon also claims that this foundation wears up to 24 hours (which I find ridiculous… I mean in what circumstance will you need to have a full face of makeup for 24 hours?).

Revlon ColorStay Whipped Creme Makeup comes in a large and thick glass jar with a screw on plastic lid which feels quite secure. The jar contains 0.8 oz of product and it costs $13.99. In comparison the original liquid ColorStay foundation has 1 oz of product and at $12.99 it is cheaper and contains more product.

The plastic top unscrews to reveal a flimsy white cover that prevents the product from getting on the lid. I don’t know if Revlon intended this to remain with the packaging post sale, but I’m probably going to keep mine just so the foundation doesn’t get everywhere and muck everything up.

The foundation has an appearance simliar to liquid foundation but it has a slightly more “whipped” look to it. The foundation itself is fairly rigid and will hold an indent for quite some time. My main issue with this design is that there is a large opening which leaves a lot of the product open to the air which can allow bacteria and other nasties to fall in without much resistance. This also applies to the fact that there isn’t a sanitary way of removing the product without at clean cosmetics spatula or a knife because dipping into it with your fingers or a brush will also allow bacteria to transfer into the foundation.

The foundation has a very mousse-y texture straight out of the jar to it due to the fact that it’s whipped, but when it’s being applied it tends to create a lot of friction and doesn’t blend all that well. The coverage (according to Revlon) is “buildable to full coverage”. Personally, I can’t get past a solitary coat without it beginning to look dry and having it emphasize dry areas so I’m going to call this a medium coverage foundation since it does help to even out skin tone, but can’t quite cover acne fully. As for the claim of this feeling “light” I’m also not sold on that either. On my skin (which is a whole bunch of combination fun) it tends to feel a bit heavy.

I’m in the shade Nude which seems to suit my medium/fair skin tone pretty well, but it’s not perfect. Unfortunately this line currently has only 5 shades that are best suited for fair skin and I wouldn’t put the shade range past a NC/W15-NC/W30 so major points off for that!

To sum up my first impressions and findings:

  • It has sturdy packaging, but you have to pay more for that to house less product than most Revlon foundations
  • The packaging is anything but sanitary
  • This clings to dry spots and looks flaky
  • It tends to have a heavy feel if you have more than a very sheer layer
  • Application is a bit blotchy because this formula is not low friction
  • The shade range is pitiful

I’m really not liking this foundation so far although I will keep on testing it for another week or so to see if it grows on me or not. I hope to post a full review on this product after the trial period in about two weeks.
